The enticing aroma of sizzling bacon and fresh coffee filled Hollesley Village Hall recently as residents gathered for the community’s latest Big Breakfast event. Attended by   Cllr James Mallinder, the East Suffolk Ward Member for Deben, the morning proved to be more than just a meal, serving as a vital hub for local connection and support.

The Big Breakfast initiative, often held in conjunction with local groups like Meet Up Mondays and Men’s Shed aims to combat social isolation by providing a warm, welcoming space for residents of all ages.

Cllr Mallinder, a long-term advocate for community wellbeing and the environment, has frequently supported such events through his Enabling Communities Budget, previously donating thousands to ensure these "warm spaces" remain accessible to everyone.

"Bringing people together is a real priority for me," said Cllr Mallinder during the event. "With the ongoing challenges many face, a hot meal and a friendly chat can be vital for mental health and developing that essential sense of community. It is fantastic to see Hollesley residents supporting one another so strongly".

The event featured a choice of breakfast items, from a full English spread to toast and marmalade. A couple of the local community groups also had stalls selling cards and birdboxes. Profits from the event will then be distributed to local groups.

Cllr Mallinder, who is also an active bell ringer at the local All Saints Church, remains committed to supporting the Hollesley community through practical funding and regular surgeries.
