Councillor James Mallinder, Conservative representative for the Deben Ward at East Suffolk Council, has issued a statement following the tragic death of a man in the village of Bromeswell, near Woodbridge.
In the early hours of Saturday, 29 August 2026, emergency services were called to a property in Summer Lane, where a man in his 30s was found dead. Suffolk Police subsequently launched a murder investigation and arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder. Authorities are currently treating the death as an isolated incident, noting that both individuals were known to each other.
Councillor James Mallinder commented:
"The news coming out of Bromeswell this weekend has left our entire community deeply shocked and saddened. Bromeswell is a close-knit, peaceful village, and an incident of this nature is profoundly upsetting for everyone who lives here.
"My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the young man who has tragically lost his life. I know that the residents of the Deben ward will join me in offering them our support and privacy during this unimaginably difficult time.
"I want to reassure residents that Suffolk Police have responded swiftly, making an arrest on Saturday afternoon. While police are treating this as an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public, I understand the anxiety this causes within a rural community.
"I urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area of Summer Lane late Friday night or early Saturday morning to contact the police immediately. Even the smallest piece of information could be vital to their ongoing investigation."
Suffolk Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact detectives via the Suffolk Constabulary Website or by calling 101. Alternatively, information can be shared 100% anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
