Treebilee: Planting trees for the Queen’s Jubilee

Trees planting

We’re supporting ‘Treebilee’, a project launched by HRH Prince Charles to encourage the planting of trees during a year-long celebration of the Queen’s 70-year reign in 2022.

As part of its involvement in the project, East Suffolk Council has purchased 200 oak trees which will be donated to every town and parish council in East Suffolk. Not only will this mark the very special occasion, but it will also help tackle climate change and contribute towards the Council’s vision to create environmentally sustainable communities.

Conservative Councillor James Mallinder and Cabinet member for the Environment, said: “Tree planting is an important aspect of our environmental vison in East Suffolk and contributes to our climate emergency target to be carbon neutral by 2030 so we’re excited about this project which celebrates the Queen’s special occasion. Trees are essential in our fight against climate change as not only do they absorb carbon, but they can also help to reduce pollution and keep the air clean. Furthermore, trees create beautiful, uplifting outdoor environments for wildlife and without them, countless animals would lose their homes or sources of food.

"I want to encourage all town and parish councils to get involved in the celebrations by joining the effort to offset our emissions by taking advantage of this free offer.”

Town and Parish councils are being written to with details of how to take ownership of their own special tree.
